It is always an honor to be able to contribute sound knowledge to panel discussions initiated by democratic, politically decisive female experts on the topic of violence against women. In the context of their online congress “WIR SIND UNSCHLAGBAR. Häusliche Gewalt – Situation, Schutzkonzepte, Prävention” (Domestic Violence – Situation, Protection Concepts, Prevention), the Thuringian parliamentary group of BÜNDNIS 90/ DIE GRÜNEN requested a lot of expertise on German femicides.
Starting at 06:12:55, this can be heard in the closing panel with a special focus on the interaction with the lack of implementation of the Istanbul Convention. Thank you for the invitation!

May 7th to May 17th, 2021
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Istanbul Convention on May 11, 2021, we (Femen Germany, change.org & FOCG) initiated a huge, 10-day protest campaign:
Phase I: Our 40 billboards (40 months Istanbul Convention in Germany) hung from 07th to 17th of May at exposed locations in Frankfurt a.M., provided with a QR code that directly linked to information in depth.
Duration of the billposting: a total of 10 days, i.e. one day for each year of the Istanbul Convention.
Phase II: On 11.05. our protest clip ran nationwide on a total of 1,385 monitors in Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund, Dresden, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart from 9am to 6pm.
Phase III: On 11.05. Our live protest performance in the ban mile of the government quarter was mentioned in France, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Spain and also Russia – just the German media characteristically ignored the performance completely.

The topic of Femicide or gender-specific killings of women is a thematic focus of the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, Ms. Dubravka Šimonović. It is a special appreciation to be able to support her international stocktaking, which aims to prevent and combat Femicides, with regular information, data on German Femicides and concrete recommendations for action derived from it. May the contribution of the Femicide Observation Center Germany (20210430_FOCG_Germany – Report on Femicide) be an additional piece of the puzzle among the internationally compiled results presented in a report to the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
April 25th, 2021: In the federal state of Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, the Radio Station Bayerischer Rundfunk takes stock of the deadly, German ignorance of the implementation of the Istanbul Convention: Thank you for the Interview.
April 1st, 2021: The international Broadcaster Deutsche Welle used its reach to generate more Awareness about German Femicide with a film clip and a live interview: Thank you for the goal-oriented cooperation – start from minute 18.
March 8th, 2021: For the theme day of Radio Lotte Weimar on the occasion of International Women’s Day, a qualified assessment and classification of German femicides was requested – again live:
February 15th, 2021: one day after the One Billion Rising-Day, Radio Dreylandeck takes a very comprehensive look at the topic of German Femicides – Credits to Heike Bischoff for the excellently prepared interview .

February 1st, 2021:The legally binding entry into force of the Istanbul Convention marks the third anniversary for the Federal Republic of Germany. On this special date, a man shoots at his wife and sister-in-law in the middle of the city center of Wiesbaden, the capital of the German state of Hessen – the wife is killed, the sister-in-law is fatally injured by a bullet to the head.
